Forensic Accounting

Forensic Accounting

In fraud and in other types of investigatory engagements, the role of a Forensic Accountant is to analyze data, strategize, audit and investigate evidence that helps decipher transactions and activities that intentionally or in some cases unintentionally affect an organization.

In some cases, we work closely with investigators with the common goal of accessing information, and then interpreting them to provide a conclusion about missing assets, transfers of funds, fraud, and false reporting of income and assets. The surface is often critical to providing findings of criminal activity, and or other types of misappropriation.

We are often asked to provide record reconstruction services when information has either been destroyed, neglected or misplaced. Often we are asked in our role as CPAs to provide them in a format that would facilitate tax filings, insurance claims, net worth analysis, settlement negotiations, and in some cases litigation.

Business Valuation

“Everything is worth what a purchaser will pay for it” Publius -1st Century B.C.

Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “all values are anticipations of the future” Businesses are purchased to realize a present and future benefit. The most prevalent reason to value a business is determine what price should be paid between a buyer and seller and depending on which party you are, the motivation for valuation will be different. Arriving at a value requires analyzing one or more different methods, approaches and disciplines to be able to arrive at a range of values. Common sense, informed judgment and reasonableness are important.
